Reviewer's Log: Earth Date 05082013. After being hyped up on a galactic scale for what seems like years, the long awaited Star Trek style simulator/role playing game Star Command is finally here. The game's warp drive must have been busted or something to take so long. I'm happy to say that it was worth the wait, and that Star Command is one of the best and most unique games of its kind. Think the indie hit FTL as done by Kairosoft, but with an actual storyline. It's that epic. more »
After the lovely Bumpy Road and the funky Beat Sneak Bandit, Simogo has decided to change up the pace with a bit of unsettling, unnerving, absolutely creepy, isolated first person adventure puzzling based on a particularly horrifying piece of Swedish mythology. Year Walk is the name of said game, and it lives up to all of the hype created by the trailers. With a unique perspective, elegant design, and all the iconic, memorable, terrifying mythological imagery your retinas can handle, this is a must buy. more »
The tower offense pioneers over at 11 Bit Studios finally released the sequel to their smash hit, Anomaly Warzone Earth. They branched out a bit, releasing the amusing Funky Smugglers and the dreamlike puzzler, Sleepwalker's Journey, but now they're back, and as this game will remind you a few times, Baghdad was just the beginning. The battle against a mysterious alien tower menace continues with new visuals, units, modes, and an awesome but sometimes hilarious Korean undertone. more »
It's not often that two indie gaming rock-stars join forces, but when it happens everyone should really pay attention. Adam Saltsman, the creator of Canabalt of Semi Secret Software, and Greg Wohlwend, the "Greg" half of Mikengreg, creators of such titles as Solipskier and Gasketball, have combined their vast powers to bring us Hundreds, a wonderfully elegant puzzler based on an old Flash game. This isn't just a simple port though. The game has been reworked heavily from the ground up, adding more complex and varied mechanics and an extra coat or three of polish. more »
Gasketball is the latest iPad title from popular indie developers, Mikengreg. The studio, consisting of two people named Mike and Greg, made a splash with their creative auto-scrolling title, Solipskier. While Gasketball fills a totally different niche of gaming, I'd say it's an excellent follow up full of the same personal charm. It’s a polished gem of a game worth checking out if you own an iPad. more »
Over one year ago, a developer named Andreas Illiger released his simple game, and to his and everyone's surprise, it became a smash, chart-topping mega hit. That game was Tiny Wings, and now that game gets its first major update bringing with it new modes and features. Along with that update comes the brand new Tiny Wings HD, which comes with all of the new features of the update, as well as some extra iPad specific stuff. It's not technically a sequel, but it's just as good as one! more »
Dynamite Jack is the latest title from developer Phil Hassey of Galcon fame. This is quite different from his strategy offerings though. Essentially, it's a stealth puzzle game, with simple yet decent visuals, cool lighting effects, and all the explosions you can stomach. It's actually a port of the original desktop version, and I'm happy to report that they spared no expense and made no cuts. This is full of features and options. Sadly, it's only available to iPad owners. more »
Tentacle Wars HD is a new strategy game for the iPad from FDG Entertainment. They also brought us quality titles like Blueprint 3D and Beyond Ynth. It’s very similar to games like Eufloria HD, or even more to Galcon. It’s a smart, well designed game with simple mechanics allowing deep strategy, and I loved it. The basic graphics and ambient background music give the game an interesting feel, and there’s even some online multiplayer to enjoy! more »
