I, Gladiator from Steel Monkeys has everything a good arena combat game needs, from different fighting styles to plenty of weapons and armor choices, character upgrades, awesome visuals, and enough blood to make the producers of Spartacus proud. Okay, that last one is an exaggeration. There isn't nearly that much blood. But when you break it down, this is one of the best swipe combat games on iOS right now, and it even comes with an epic story to frame the action. more »
Games with deep stories and intricately crafted worlds are nice, but sometimes you just want to smash the ever-loving out of everything as a giant Godzilla monster wearing boxing gloves. FDG Entertainment and Neutronized have brought us that exact game, Roar Rampage, and it is pretty glorious, with very retro sensibilities but unique, modern touch gameplay. more »
MotoHeroz is the latest stunt racer from studio RedLynx, who also brought us DrawRace, 1000 Heroz, and are known more famously outside of mobile gaming circles for the bafflingly brutal Trials series of games. This is an adaptation, rather than a straight port, of their WiiWare title of the same name. It’s a much smaller and simpler, almost bite-sized version of the full game, and it’s pretty awesome. This is also the studio’s first iOS title under their new publisher Ubisoft, who acquired them late last year. more »
If you prefer your physics puzzlers with a bit of snark and insanity over the usual cutesy-wutesy type stuff, then boy do I have the game for you! Tennis in the Face puts you in the tennis shoes of Pete Pagassi (a mash-up of tennis legends Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi), a former pro player who now teaches pre-school tennis class, as he tries to bring down an evil energy drink company called Explodz armed with only his wicked forehand. I should also mention that this was brought to us by 10tons, who also brought us Azkend and Boom Brigade. more »
After an unexpected explosion of popularity way past the original Temple Run’s release date, Imangi Studios have probably been swimming in Scrooge McDuck piles of gold, and a sequel became an inevitability. That sequel is now here, but have there been enough changes? I’d say so. Set in a new Temple with new obstacles and all the rest, Temple Run 2 just barely avoids stagnation. Let’s break it down. more »
I was not expecting a game like this to help start off my 2013. Despite not really being relevant anymore, we get a game with Shaquille O'Neal as our hero, because he's Shaq and he can do whatever he wants. On a very general, conceptual level, he was even involved in the creation of this game. ShaqDown is an auto-runner with some brawler elements from One Spear Entertainment and Hiptic Games, developers of Go Ninja!. 've got a special place in my heart for any game that turns Shaquille O'Neal into a destiny fortified savior of men, known in this instance as the Justice Bringer. more »
Penny Time is a brand new rhythm based auto-run platformer. It’s a licensed marketing game from Penny Skateboards, existing only to promote a product. And it is simply awesome! Who knew such a thing was even possible? They let the developers put all the creativity and effort into the game that was needed, and what we have is a stylish title packed with random humor and clever mechanics, not to mention an outstanding soundtrack, which is the most important thing about any rhythm based game. more »
RocketCat Games are quickly turning into one of my favorite developers. Mage Gauntlet was an impressively designed, streamlined action RPG experience that raised quite a few eyebrows. Their latest title, Punch Quest, is an excellent follow up. While it's an endless runner mixed with a classic arcade beat-em up, the same elegant design and tastefully done pixel art style are present. The unique music is also worth noting. Also, hats. There are many hats. more »
