There isn't exactly a shortage of language translation apps on the App Store, but that doesn't mean we should just ignore any newcomers. It means that those newcomers have to do something special to really stand out from the crowd, and this Voice Translator app from Linguatec does just that, with some great new features. Initially the app will feel very familiar, with two buttons laid out allowing you to speak and record in two different languages at a time. The interface is well thought out and easy to use, and it's no hassle to switch between the app's 66 possible languages. 33 of those languages offer voice support, while the other half makes use of a keyboard input, I should point out. So far so good, but what's the big deal here? Take a look and see. more »
Who’s in the mood for a dungeon crawl? ORC: Vengeance is a new action RPG from Big Cave Games and Chillingo, and it’s nice to see them supporting something other than cute physics puzzlers. It’s pretty rare. This game puts you in the boots of an unlikely hero: an orcish war chief named Rok, as you slice your way through gloomy prisons, stormy keeps and creepy crypts. The production values are crazy good for iOS, and the entirely gesture-based gameplay is frantic and fun, if a bitty iffy on the control side at times. more »
Phosphor Games has already proven that they know how to craft memorable game worlds, and that Infinity Blade style gameplay can easily become refreshing with just a few tweaks, in their previous title Dark Meadow. They've partnered with Zynga for their latest outing, creating the all too rare Zynga game that is actually a game. I give you Horn, an epic, almost Legend of Zelda inspired adventure with simple but engaging swipe combat. more »
Spell Sword is a new arena combat platformer from FireFruitForge and Everplay Interactive. It builds upon the unique mechanics made popular by Super Crate Box, except that it takes place in a swords and sorcery kind of environment. It adapts the young new genre to a fantasy RPG setting far better than games like Muffin Knight did, in my opinion. The retro graphics and music are awesome, the gameplay is furious and addicting, and it’s just generally a great game that I highly recommend. more »
At some point or another, every iconic video game villain always gets some time of their own in the spotlight, whether it's Bowser joining your party in a Super Mario RPG, or Dr. Eggman fighting alongside Sonic. Sometimes you just get to play as the villains being villains though, which is the case in Bad Piggies. Now we get to enjoy those bumbling egg stealing antics first hand in this new vehicle based puzzler from the Angry Birds universe. It's great to see Rovio expand this universe some more. more »
The exceedingly popular Mega Jump from Get Set Games has finally received something of a sequel, although we’ve made the change from an endless jumping game to auto-running game. This is Mega Run - Redford’s Adventure, and it’s great fun. A ton of familiar elements from the older game return, but now they’ve been revamped, expanded on, and given a shiny new coat of paint. On top of all that, it’s also totally free, so definitely give this one a look. more »
Just over a year ago, the App Store was graced with League of Evil, a challenging retro precision platformer in the same vein as Super Meat Boy, except not quite as brutal in difficulty. Now iPhone owners get to feel that frustration and rage once again with League of Evil 2 from Ravenous Games. more »
The birds are back yet again, and they’re going back into space! But this time around, it’ll be a really familiar corner of space, far, far away. That’s right! The force meets feathers in Angry Birds Star Wars, Rovio’s latest expansion to the Angry Birds universe! I know it sounds like an odd match, but it works surprisingly well, and this may very well be the best Angry Birds game yet, and not just because of the Star Wars elements. more »
