Could Smartphones and Apps Be Useful For Property Managers?

August 13th, 2009 by Joe Spinogatti

Huston over at Property Management Software Advice passed a link along to me about a very interesting story that was published there. The story is about how smartphones and the apps on them could be useful to property managers. One of the more fascinating ideas that I pulled out of their post was how augmented reality apps could be used to help property managers and even their clients. Think about it, a client asks the manager about a certain property and instantly, the manager can pull out their smartphone and pull up any information that the client needs to know about. Also, reality companies could create apps for platforms such as the iPhone, Symbian, and Android that would allow the client to drive to a property, launch the app and have the app bring up information on the property based on the GPS location or a feed from the camera if it were an augmented reality application.

Property management is not often an industry on the cutting edge of technology. However, more and more property managers are making use of smartphones in their daily activities.

So, Software Advice has put together a list of smartphone apps we’d like to see developed for property management. Most of the technology already exists in property management software and other mobile apps, it just needs to be mashed up for our use. Some of these save time. Others save money. And some of them are just plain cool.

What are your thoughts on these kinds of apps? Would you enjoy shopping for a new house this way? Would you find a property manager more helpful if he or she had access to these types of tools?
