ZAGG, best known for its popular invisibleSHIELDs line of screen protectors, has been expanding into the accessories market. Among their new product offerings are ZAGGphones, a high quality pair of over-the-ear headphones. These headphones offer excellent fidelity, comfort, and aesthetics; however their price may be steep from some consumers.

Acoustically, the ZAGGphones excel across the full audible spectrum. Bass comes thumping through, while mid and high tones remain crisp and distinct. It’s amazing how these headphones help you notice aspects of a song that just get muddled in a cheaper pair. In fact, it’s hard to put these on and not start a little foot tapping or fist pounding.
We found the headphones to be comfortable, even after hours of use. Similar to most headphones of this style, they contain generous amounts of padding around the ear and at the top of the head. Each ear cup pivots about two axes, and slides to accommodate various head shapes and sizes. The cups can also be rotated 180° for quick, one-ear listening. Although not technically noise canceling headphones, we found that they attenuated ambient noise surprisingly well. They were a significant improvement over typical headphones during a flight.
Aesthetically, the headphones stand out from the plethora of drab, bulky studio-headphones out there. They sport a more modern look, aided by black on silver accents and geometric styling. The headset feels durable; however the “Z” decal on one of the cups has already started to wear off. The cord is robust and coiled, allowing it to stretch from 4.5 to 11 ft. A 3.5mm to 1/4″ adapter and travel pouch are included with the headphones.
Overall, our impression of the ZAGGphones was very positive. They sounded great and were comfortable to wear. Our only complaint was with them showing more wear than expected after only three weeks of use. For a hundred dollars these headphones may be more than the average consumer is willing to spend, but they do make up for it in quality. We recommend them if you’re in the market.
