Recently, in Australia, there has been a worm going around that infects jailbroken iPhones that have SSH installed with the default root password of “alpine.” This worm does nothing but changes your wallpaper to a picture of Rick Astley. To protect yourself from this worm (it hasn’t spread any further then Australia) you can either a) not jailbreak your iPhone or b) change the default SSH password. If you already have your phone jailbroken, changing the SSH password is extremely easy. To find out how to, click here. Antivirus firm Sophos has analyzed the code for this exploit and found that there is no malicious code contained within this worm. It was designed as an experiment to draw attention to the vulnerability. A MacRumors Australia forum poster ike_x has taken credit for the exploit and is offering affected users assistance in removing the worm.
