Games » FieldRunners Review

Since Desktop Tower Defense managed to win some awards last year, it?s been pretty clear that the general public is into this sort of game. That?s why it came as such a surprise that it took that long for a tower defense game to make its way over to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Luckily, FieldRunners was definitely worth the wait.
The game is presented in Super Nintendo style graphics that give it the same kind of action/cartoony feel that you get from playing Team Fortress 2. There?s plenty of strategy involved, so don?t let the styling distract you from that. After all, those soldiers may look all sweet and innocent, but they?re going to kill you if they make it across.
You get four different towers to place (machine gun, goo gun, rocket launcher, and tesla coil) that each cost more than the one before.
Screenshot3
They each do different things and effect enemies differently, so you?ll need to figure out which ones are going to help you with the next wave. You can also upgrade them or sell them by holding your finger on the tower to pull up the menu. Earn more money by killing more enemies so that you can make better towers!
Right now, the game only offers one map and four weapons, but they plan to release more in their updates.  This game is worth every cent and is very enjoyable. You can basically exit the game at any point and pick it back up and be right where you left off, making this one of the best pick up and play games for the iPhone. You won?t be deleting this app from your iPhone anytime soon.

Ok, but not worth a buck

FieldRunner is a great addicting game at first but its short comings become all too appearant after the first couple of plays. Currently (maybe this is because it is still in developement) the game has no sound which takes some of the fun out of any battle situation. The goal of the game is to make a elaborate maze in which the field runners will have to run through and be shot at until they die or make it to the other end of the field. Your goal is to merely place turrents down to make the  trip of the runners as painful as possible, killing them before they reach their goal. The entire game is building up turrents (of which there are a few with some upgrades) and place them in such a way that the runner have to take the longest possible way to their goal. To end the game 20 runners must make it to their goal or you must survive 100 waves. When you get the hang of the game you will soon be bored and monotonized by the endless marching of runners to a non-existant song as they are slaughtered without defence. It is fun to see how long you can survive or if you can keep all the runners from getting across, but by the end of the game you will feel like you wasted your time. Beating your old score becomes more monotonous with each round and it eventually loses all playability. It also makes no use of the innovative control system  in the iphone.
Fun for a few minutes of enjoyment, but probably not worth wasting money on in the long run.

Fantastic Game

Fieldrunners is a fantastic tower defense game that offers a challenging and intensely fun gaming experience on the iphone or ipod touch.  The replayability factor is through the roof, which, for me makes this game well worth the $5.  The only fault that I can see is the lack of a soundtrack, but this will be fixed with the next update (any day now) along with several new game enhancements.   Do yourself a favor and pick up this app.  It's the only must have game in the app store.

The gameplay is flawless, very easy to pick up and play, but hard to master. It is extremely addicting, in 15 minutes it will have you hooked and unable to let go for hours. I have had 3 friends play on mine, and proceed to go buy iPhones to be able to play on their own!!!

I've had it for over 1 month now and still play it frequently, my favorite game on the iTouch.

Update 1.1.1 Brings a new map, with even greater challenges than the first, 2 entrances with multiple paths and enemies jumping in at once.
The sound is pretty awesome and integrates with the game very well, bringing another layer of fun and excitement.
Graphics are very appealing and inviting, specially with the ability to zoom into the action, or out to oversee and plan your defenses.

2500+ reviews on the Appstore with a 5 star average rating CANNOT be wrong... I saw this unfair review above and just HAD to post a review. This game is truly awesome, if you don't have already, you're missing out!

Looooove fieldrunners!

This game is by far the best on the iPhone!  My most played by far.  It has the best graphics; really cute but not childish.  Most of the early games for the iPhone either had bad graphics in favor of good game play or modest graphics (plus low frame-rate) and mediocre gameplay.
The update has added fun sounds and a super catchy theme song, so the earlier complaints and low ratings of sound should be reevaluated.
With the new, more challenging map, you suddenly have to scramble for new strategies.  Add to that new fieldrunners - including one immune to goo - and you have an entirely new experience!
Plus there is now an endless mode, so my competition with my friends over high scores has upped the ante.
It's really terrific, and as more updates roll in, it's going to get better and better.
Also, as mentioned above, this is the only app in the Top 50 that has 5 stars, with over 2500 ratings!  And Kotaku says, "Fieldrunners maybe be [sic] the best game on the iPhone hands down."
Trust the good reviews.  You'll love it.

This game is fun but not for anymore than a week or two which is more than i can see about most of the games in the app store. Its a good game but not a must have I think the price is fair.

AppStoreMod's Review On Fieldrunners

User rated 5/5
Review by AppStoreMod

The iPhone is a great platform for all types of games, especially strategy/tactics games. Fieldrunners takes the ?Tower Defense? concept, and ?runs? with it. With stunning graphics, it really lets you focus in on the most important part. . .the gameplay. Fieldrunners keeps you thinking at all times and makes you stay on top of your strategy. Don?t slip. . .because it could create a crack in your defense that takes you down.
