Can't make it to the bowling alley tonight but dying to knock over some pins? Load up 300 Bowl and try your hand at virtual bowling. This game puts you in your own private lane and gives you the chance to play 10 strings by yourself, against the computer, or even with a friend.
It's very surprising that the game doesn't allow some form of accelerometer play. The whole idea of bowling requires you to get up and move, so with a device that can definitely replicate that it's confusing that there isn't an option for it. The game offers three different language modes, but there really isn't that much to read when you get into the game. Pressing new game lets you choose between solo play, playing with a computer, or against a friend. Enter your name in and start bowling.
If you press the help button, it actually keeps you inside the app and shows you more information.
This information is squeezed up into the top of the screen, leaving a lot of blank space below. It isn't an app ruiner, but it looks pretty tacky. You can send your bowling ball down the lane in several different ways. If you're going for a curve, the direction you start aiming towards is where the curve goes, the pull in the other direction brings the spin, and where you cross the arrows is the direction the ball is released in.
300 Bowl isn't a beautiful game nor is it complex. It's just a way to play a few strings of bowling on your iPhone. It won't convince you to abandon Wii bowling or anything like that, but it may hold your interest for a train ride or two. Hopefully they'll make it look just a little sharper in future updates.
