SUMMARY: Rollercoaster racing, this time in 3D

In 3D rollercoaster rush you are in control of a speeding roller coaster racing on a twisted looping broken track that is mysteriously suspended above a desert backdrop.

The object of the game is to either tilt of touch you iPhone or iPod Touch to control the speed of a roller coaster as is careens through loop-the-loops, steep inclines and drops, and even gaps in the track. The faster you go the happier your passengers are, and the more points you are awarded. But if you catch air and don't land smooth, you'll loose passengers off the edge. Lose all your passengers and you'll have to try again.

According to the developer, Digital Chocolate, 3D Rollercoaster Rush is based on another game they released called Rollercoaster Rush. As far as I'm concerned it's the same game, only in 3D.

The 3D backgrounds and tracks are really well made, that's all this game has going for it. While the camera does move around the rollercoaster and the environment is 3D, the game play is still two dimensional. Instead of just going up and down there are twists and turns taking you left and right through the 3D environment but there is no danger of falling off the track. Even if you're in the air and the track turns you will turn too. The 3D is only added to make the game look better not add to the game play.

If there were danger of falling off the edge of the track it would add to the gameplay exponentially and really make this game stand out. Not only would you have to worry about jumps and drops but also sharp turns.

As it is now, the game is way too easy. On a lot of the tracks you don't even need to slow down. Simply tilt all the way to the right or tap and hold the coaster at full speed and you'll pass the level. This game boasts 40 different tracks but I was able to easily pass most of them in one try.

One nice feature that this game has is that after you successfully pass a track, you can go back and race against a ghost of the developer that created the track. It is a nice touch with the attempt to add re-playability, but I personally would prefer to race against a ghost of my own best time.

All in all because there is nothing new, if you liked Roller Coaster Rush I'm sure you'll like this game. But for everyone else it's fun for the first five to ten minutes and it does look great. But at the current asking price, I would recommend holding off.
