Aera is a 3D airplane game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game isn't like other that have come and gone as it is still set on a two dimensional track. The game focuses on tilting your device left or right in order to perform loops. This is useful as the game has you fight enemy planes and follow an obstacle course popping balloons.
The game has many different modes to choose from. There is the quick game mode which gives you a list of all the available games to play from races to head to head dogfights. There is also the campaign mode which will guide you through the initial tutorial and then start you on your way completing different challenges and objectives.
The game handled pretty well overall and was pretty entertaining to play through. As you progress through the campaign, you will unlock new airplanes that each have there own unique play style. The game also has a multiplayer option though it is only available over wifi and requires having a friend nearby. I would suggest that you go in and tweak the controls to your liking as there is a slight learning curve with the default ones.
Overall, the game plays extremely smooth and is obviously a carefully crafted experience. Though the game is not a free roaming 3D world, the flow of the plane flying is smooth and makes for an immersive game that can be both casually and competitively enjoyed. Check it out.
