Ancient Tribe is a somewhat different game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The whole idea of the game is that you play a God of an ancient tribe who needs to help them grow and gather resources so their village can grow. You must direct your villagers towards food while trying to keep them alive in the process. As you gather resources, you can then build up by recruiting different types of villagers that specialize in different things. The hunting aspect of the game plays out like an RTS game with the need too select villagers and guide them to either attack or move to a point.

Aside from just improving your villagers, you can also upgrade your God powers which will allow you to provide supernatural assistance to your villagers while they are on the hunt.

While I wasn't able to finish the game during my time alotted for reviews, I did get a pretty godd picture of what the game was all about. After a few tries, the game became pretty monotonous feeling like I was doing the same thing over and over again only with stronger units. The actual hunting aspect of the game became annoying when my villagers weren't smart enough to move around each other and ended up walking back and forth while another villager was getting his face ripped apart.

The game is a step in an interesting direction for the iPhone but overall it just didn't have enough staying power for me personally. It was fun for a bit and because of that I will recommend checking it out. It has a cheaper price in the app store and will keep some players out there entertained for a while. Just don't expect anything game changing

An alright start to what could be a great game

As a 99c game, this is really good, I don't think I would have bought it for 1.99.

The graphics of the game are great! The animations are smooth, the graphics are nice, a good variety, great style. 4/5 for graphics. The sound in the game is pretty good as well, There's a good variety of the sounds, and the quality is great, I'd give the sound a 3/5 for slight repetitiveness.

As for gameplay, it's pretty good as an RTS, but I feel it's very one-sided to be called an RTS. There's not really much strategy involved, you select all your fighters and gang-bang a wild animal to death, if you have enough fighters you go for the boss. I'd really like to see some village building aspect to it. Also there are a few near-fatal flaws in the hunting aspect of the game. I feel that the view should be zoomed out a bit, it's good when you have 4 or so fighters, but even with 6 or 7, the screen is too cluttered with all the people, and the HUD. Remember, we're playing on a small screen, there's not much screen real estate, and we want to see what we're doing! Also the multitouch controls are very sensitive and don't work too well, it tends to jump around a good amount. I don't know if there's a way to pick which lil dude the camera focuses on, but it's really annoying when I have all but 1 people on mounts, and that 1 slow guy is who the camera follows.

The game is way too picky about where you have to be to pick up an object, I suggest increasing the area items (wood, food, stone) detect villagers, if I touch the graphic, I should get it. The same goes for where I touch an enemy. I've had a great deal of trouble where I tap an enemy and just walk to them.

The AI for the villagers is horrible, when I tell them to attack they almost always get stuck on eachother, and end up walking back and forth.

I'd really like to see some sort of decision making part of this game where I have to decide whether to build a healer's hut, or an armory, or things like that that will affect gameplay. It would also be nice to have things happen to the tribe, like plague, or drought, and you make a decision on what to do that will give bonuses/take things away.

This is a pretty good game for 99c, It's got potential to be one of the top games on the iphone, but falls very short as of right now. I REALLY hope to see some big updates come to this! It's a good start, please don't call it done!
