Archon, for some of you, brings back memories of crazy times. The blend of chess, strategy, magic spells and arcade combat, brought this game to popular heights in the gaming community during its prime. Other than playing on a game board just like chess, this game is nothing like it. The pieces are living and the rules are chaotic at best. Each team has their own special units with different powers, hitpoints and weaknesses. It has been hailed as the perfect blend of strategy and action, but how does it stack up on the modern iPhone?

After playing for a bit and remembering some good times, I still struggled with some annoying issues. The controls are handled by the digital joystick we're all accustomed to now, and it was really annoying to use when battling. The game has definitely aged since its glory days and newcomers may not see much value in it.

There is no multiplayer offered but the computer player did just fine in kicking my butt on adept.

Overall, this game is classic that will remain a classic forever. It has solid gameplay but the controls ruined it for me. For those of you who remember this game, it may be worth the price to check it out. But newcomers may not be able to appreciate the game the same way and it may be worth it to wait for a newer version that takes advantage of all the technologies that have been discovered since it's time. Check it out if you want a quality game, just remember it's from an older time. It does have a nice, shiny icon though.
