Atlantis Sky Patrol by Big Fish Games is a unique and highly addictive marble shooter. If you’re like me, you’ve played several similar games that don’t have quite enough pizzazz to keep you entertained very long. Well, my personal search for the perfect marble shooter has finally ended, because this app offers enough content and game-play factors to keep me playing for hours on end.
The goal of this game is to destroy over 100 doomsday machines by defeating chains of marbles rolling toward an exit that must not be entered. You do so by shooting your own marbles at them and matching three or more of the same color. What sets this game apart from the others is that there are stationary marbles that must also be hit in order to destroy the doomsday machines that spit out the diabolical chains of colorful marbles. It may seem easy, but in the higher levels, this added task builds a lot of tension to the already tense experience.
This game comes loaded with a whopping 111 levels, and an occasional mini game shows up between levels. The course graphics can be boring and repetitive, but the animation is fluid, and unique obstacles like bridges and reflectors make up for it.
The music is a different story, though. The game has a 1950s airplane look, yet the music sounds tribal and doesn’t fit in too well. Don’t get me wrong: It’s well composed and not overly repetitive, but it seems more like something you’d here in StoneLoops! of Jurassica. Luckily, the game features the capability for you to select or create your own playlist of music right in the app.
Overall, the controls are intuitive and fit the game nicely. To shift your device back and forth, you hold onto it and scrub to the desired position and then let go once you are aimed and ready. I think it might have been better if you could shoot the ball by tapping your other finger; it can get annoying picking up your finger and putting it back down again several times especially in an intense round. Another unique action this game features is the ability to toggle the color of your marble by shaking the device. There is also an option to calibrate the sensitivity of your shake.
Fantastic game-play, boatloads of content, and unique power-ups and obstacles will surely adhere you to your device for hours. This is the cream of the crop marble shooter. I highly recommend purchasing this application if you are a pro marble shooter or completely new to the genre.
