Let’s face it. At one time or another, we’ve all had some aggressive feelings toward teddy bears, and now we can finally act on our emotions and take down these adorable, huggable miscreants. Battle Bears follows Oliver in his quest to transport mystical treasures safely to another location, but, unfortunately, his unicorn-and-buggy crashes, forcing him to defend himself by executing every last bear.
Enveloped by a makeshift fort and armed with your limitless rifle and one of three other unlockable weapons, you, Oliver, will have to kill every teddy bear that comes your way or face your ultimate (and humiliating) fate: death by hugs. Sound amazing? It is. This is a very fun application, and although it can get repetitive at times, the funny and unique storyline is enough to keep bringing me back to this game.
For one thing, the game looks great. It’s very impressive for being in the lower-price niche of games. Seeing the pink bears with huge smiles on their faces and their arms flailing around always puts me into a better mood. It’s obvious that a lot of time was put into not only good graphics, but enjoyable and clever animations.
To control your cross-hair, touch anywhere on the screen and scrub around into your desired position (I found the neck to be the sweet spot), and then tap with your other finger to shoot. This system works surprisingly well and isn’t too hard to pick up.
The music is fairly enjoyable and adds to the ironic seriousness of the game. I would have liked to hear something a little better composed, but along with the humorous sound of the dying bears, the sounds do the game justice.
Along with the generic pink huggers, an occasional fast golden bear or giant blue bear will cross your path as you ward off the dozens of other enemies in your eyesight. Although shooting the heads off of teddy bears is fun, it can get rather monotonous; that is the only downside of this game. With original game-play, a hilarious story line, and a highly affordable price, there is really no reason for you not to buy this application.
