Belowscape is a survival arcade game for the iPhone and iPod touch. Those of you familiar with the classic geometry wars or similar games, Belowscape will make you feel right at home. The object of the game is to rack up as many points as possible before being inevitably destroyed by the ever-growing masses of enemies on your screen. What struck me as excellent right off the bat about this game is that it doesn't hold the player back with control schemes set in stone.
The player can customize the controls to their personal liking and utilize touch and tilt to their heart's desire. After setting up your controls, you can choose from Survival or Rush modes. Survival will have the player staying alive as long as possible with 3 lives at their disposal and a growing amount of enemies.
The Rush mode will throw everything it has at you and you only have one life to hold onto while the onslaught continues. Both modes offer enough change in strategy and will keep the player entertained for quite a while. It also offers an online ranking system so you can see how well you stack against other players.
Overall, Belowscape is taking the basic arcade formula and applying it to a modern device. With it's great customizable controls and an online ranking system to compete on, it really does offer a great experience for the price. It's developers seem to really keep up with it's features and are bound to add even more content as the game gains popularity. But as for now, this game is still a keeper in my book.
