BigOven is an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that provides you with over 160,000 recipes for you to browse and search through. The apps is very plain with nothing fancy to it at all, but it does have a lot of information, making it very useful.
The app feels like a modified Safari browser. In this app, you?ll see left and right arrows, refresh, help, glossary, a favorite button, a try soon button, and a settings button. In settings, you can actually toggle on the ability to find a new random recipe just by shaking the phone. This is an interesting way to integrate the iPhone and iPod Touch functionality into the app.
You?ve got the option to search or browse through the glossary. You can search by ingredient or recipe name if you like. The ingredients will most likely pull up directly to the page unless there are multiple variations of that ingredient. The recipes will pull up the multiple variations by default. On the individual pages you?ll see pictures, information, ingredients, instructions, and comments. Unfortunately you can?t add to any of the comments directly from the app.
This app isn?t a bad cooking companion, but you need to keep in mind that it?s just a formatted website. It?s got quite a bi of information in it and loads very fast over 3G so definitely download and check out this app if you?re the type of person who enjoys cooking.
