BoomBox is an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows you to listen to music from the Blip.fm catalogue. Unfortunately this app isn?t a full featured Blip.fm app, but it definitely is a step in the right direction.

You don?t need to have a Blip.fm account or anything like that to use this app. BoomBox simply searches through the song library associated with Blip.fm and lets you listen to it. When you first load up the app, press the search button and find a song you like. Then you can select the song to play, add it to your playlist, or purchase it from iTunes. If you decide you want to purchase it, the app shows you all the different versions of the songs available on iTunes and brings you right over to it.

This app can only be used over WiFi unfortunately. That?s not necessarily a bad thing for the developers as that means they don?t have to worry about what happens when a user decided to buy the song they?re listening to. The WiFi choice apparently is something imposed by Apple, but the developers are looking to work closely with them to allow for this to work on EDGE and 3G as well.

This app will definitely stand out from the other music apps out there as it lets you find a specific song you want to listen to and play it. You can even play it multiple times. Some obscure songs might not be available through this app, but most of the ones you search will be. Considering this app is free, definitely download it asap. While it?s not exactly handy everywhere, it?s definitely a great app overall.
