BrainFreqz is a series of apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch that are meant to help with focusing your brain on doing a certain task. There are eight different varieties of this app at the time of this review; each one is different in sound but very similar in look.
The eight varieties available now are: Sleep Induction, Meditation, Relaxation, Energize, Euphoria, Concentration & Focus, Creativity, and Headache Relief. We had a chance to test out Sleep Induction for this review and found it to be very disappointing. Basically, all this app does is play a sound file over and over again to apparently lull your brainwaves.
Besides pressing play and stop to listen to the same sounds repeating, you can also read the novels worth of legal documents, do's and don'ts, and an about section. You'll probably fall asleep faster if you read through all of that instead of just trying to relax and focus on the sounds that the app is playing for you.
The biggest issue we had with this app is that you're paying $1.99 for an mp3 in an app. If it was just an mp3, you could do other stuff while listening to it (for the other varieties, of course). You also wouldn't have to leave the iPod app open just to keep the music playing. It's an interesting idea that may appeal to some as an mp3, but it's a total waste of space on your iPhone.
