BurnBall is a variation of the classic game JezzBall for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Recently we?ve seen several games like this hit the App Store, but BurnBall does offer a full story line to justify why you?re coloring the world.
The basic story is that Dr. Gray has captured your friends and through the use of his robots is attempting to turn the world, well, gray. Your goal is to not only stop him by trapping his robots by coloring in the area around them, but also rescuing your friends. You?ll do all of this by tilting your device in the direction you want to move and connecting your line of colored squares with any colored square on the map. Unfortunately, when you start the level, only the top and bottom of the screen has colored squares.
From the story to the art work, BurnBall feels like the sole inspiration behind everything but the game play was Sonic the Hedgehog.
You can notice the similarities in the character design and even the bad guys name. This doesn?t really change the game play experience, but it makes this game feel less unique when it?s main competition is something as creative as Dr. Awesome.
BurnBall offers up three levels of difficulty that definitely give this game some staying power. Unfortunately there are just too many games of this type out there for it to hold its own at the higher price point it started at. If you were looking for a second type of JezzBall style game for your iPhone or iPod Touch, BurnBall would be a good choice, but unfortunately there are others out there that offer a more enjoyable over all experience.
