Camera Zoom is an app that is trying to solve one of the many dilemmas users are finding with the current iPhone. The app gives users the ability to digitally zoom in on whatever their photo subject is and then take a picture. Its developers submit that the app can zoom up to 4x digitally and that it will auto-adjust the photo to the best image quality after the picture is taken. Interested, I checked it out.

The issue right off the bat is the digital zoom. We all have experienced the difference between digital and optical zoom on our digital cameras. Zooming too far it switches to digital zoom and the picture begins to get all pixelated. This is the type of zoom that CameraZoom is utilizing. The app tries to fix this pixelation by sharpening the photo after it is taken. In my tests, the app did a pretty decent job getting a presentable image from a fully zoomed shot. Both the shutter button and the zoom slider can be customized to use a full screen touch instead of a button to take the shot and zoom. This is handy for those who have a hard time hitting the button when taking pictures of themselves with other people or other hard to do situations.

Overall, Camera Zoom does exactly what it claims to do and does a pretty good job. Some of the pictures didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but for such a cheap app, it works. There are other apps that offer a zoom function too, but this one is a very cheap offering that could easily serve as a camera replacement for some. Check it out.
