Ever since the release of the iPhone, it was inevitable there would be copycat apps of popular console games. Being one of the most critically acclaimed and controversial games released for consoles, Grand Theft Auto was sure to spawn games following it's reckless mob life and car stealing gameplay that made it so popular. Car Jack Streets is another game that looks to get it's feet wet, or should I say bloody, with GTA-style mayhem.
You play Randal, a heavy gambler that gains a little bit too much debt with the Italian mob who is now called on to pay up. Not having the money on hand, you are given 2 weeks to pay your debt, or you are a dead man. Immediately, the games most interesting mechanic comes in to play. When the mob boss says two weeks, he means you, the player, has literally 2 weeks to get that money. The game plays in real time. When it's night time in your location, it's night time in the game.
When you spend too long off the game, be prepared to be hunted. The game features a rich soundtrack of independent bands and some interesting bird's eye view gameplay. Cars can be taken, weapons picked up, and jobs can be taken. There are hidden features and online rankings to see how you fare in the criminal underworld. One of the few complaints I have with the game is with the driving. Your car is stopped by brushing anything and the turning is sometimes confusing and too sensitive.
Overall, the game itself is really a great accomplishment and the real time gameplay really helps to suck the player into the world and make them worry about making their payments. If you love games like GTA and other crime focused shenanigans, check out Car Jack Streets. Aside from a few little quirks, it's got all the mayhem you are looking for.
