How many business cards do you have floating around, cluttering up your desk or bulging your wallet? Ever need a number from a business card you received a month ago but now have no idea where it is? CardSnap solves these problems with an application for the iPhone that really does work well.

The application is simple. You take a picture of a business card with your iPhone and tap submit. The photo is uploaded to the server and all the information on the card is sent back to your iPhone and placed right into your address book. The app relies on photo clarity to accurately enter in all the information on the business card. So, if you're using the original iPhone or the iPhone 3G, they recommend using the Griffin Clarifi Case to get the clearest possible picture. If you don't get that case, then you'll have a hard time with this app. But, if you own the case or if you have an iphone 3GS, then you're good to go. As long as you have good lighting and you keep the iPhone still, your cards will be processed accurately.

After you submit your photos it takes some time for them to be processed. The description says cards will be processed within 24 hours. My four cards took approximately 18 hours to get back to me and there is no way of knowing they are done unless you open up the app periodically. It would be nice to see an email or push notification feature in the next update.

I used an iPhone 3GS with good lighting and three out of the four were processed 100% accurately. My fourth just didn't include a name and it said some fields were illegible, but I could easily read all the information on the card. There are three different colors to indicate how the process went.

Green indicates all fields were entered, yellow means some fields were illegible and not entered and red means that all fields were illegible.

After the cards are processed and sent back they are placed right inside your iPhone's address book into whichever group you preselected. The app really does work well and all the information on my cards were accurately entered in my address book except for the person's photo. That would have been a really nice additional feature to include the person's picture. Also, it took 18 hours to get my four cards processed. This seems a little long to me. But, then again, if you receive multiple business cards from people frequently, it might be worth the wait to have all of those cards entered into your iPhone's address book for you.

Overall, the app does its job very well. If you have a Griffin Clarifi case or the iPhone 3GS and you have tons of business cards laying around, and you're too busy or lazy, and you can wait 18 hours, then this app is for you. If you're not a business man or woman who gets business cards frequently, I don't see this app staying on your iPhone for very long unless you get the lite version. The lite version only allows 6 fields of information to be entered instead of the full version's 17 fields. But, the lite version is significantly cheaper. Either way, CardSnap has my full recommendation.
