What this app does is locates exactly where you are and lets you determine where you want to go. From there you can set out exactly where you want to head to and see if anyone is offering a ride or needs a ride. It does come preloaded with a few locations, but you can easily add your own at your leisure.
To offer a ride, you do have to register with the service for it to broadcast your offer. That means that you have to provide your information to another third party that no one has heard of. It's not like they're going to police whether the person using the app is acceptable or not, so there isn't any security to it.
When you think about it, Carticipate might be useful for very trusting people. But think about it, if you can afford an iPhone and the monthly fees, can't you afford a ride? Unless you're a fan of leaving behind detailed information as to where you go every time you leave your house, then don't try this app. Please.
