Catan was originally a board game. In fact, it is a ridiculously popular board game that I can't seem to get away from, everyone plays it and everyone loves it. Not me, but that's besides the point. A developer has finally created an iPhone version of the hit board game and it already has me giving it mixed reviews. The game plays almost exactly like the board game which is great considering the board version is so good. Since most of you know how to play Catan already, I'm not going to give you a whole tutorial but I will say, the idea is to colonize the land.
Now for the gripes. There is no online multiplayer which would have set this game sailing in the app world. You are able to play locally with friends but usually if you are going to play Catan with friends in the same room, you would just whip out the board instead. The gameplay moves extremely slow and had me waiting impatiently for a while to have my turn come. There is an option in the game to speed up the animation but it wasn't enough to make the game feel fluid and worth my time.
Don't get me wrong, the game is fun and is a great rendition of the classic board game. But it is not perfect by far and could do with some hefty updates before I would recommend paying the full price for the game.
