SUMMARY: Destroy the data core in this trippy asteroids-like shooter

Circuit_Strike.One is an arcade game available for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game feels just like asteroids... except if you threw in a few hallucinogens and stuck it in a hacker world full of crazy female robot voices and over-the-top sound effects. There is really no obvious premise to the game other than the fact that the player must destroy the Data Core in the center of the map to move on to the next level. In order to do this, the shield generator must first be destroyed and then the player only has seconds before the core self destructs and the game is over. While you are trying to do this, you will be constantly pummeled by fire from AI units and turrets.

This is where your controls get important. Shaking the device will activate a bullet time mode that will render your ship invulnerable for a few moments and allow you to accomplish your goals in slow motion. This bar can be refilled by killing enemy units and collecting their ghosts. The thruster is also important, located on the left side of the screen, holding down will move you forward and sliding down will activate an air break or backwards thrust. This game confused me at first and it is really important to read the directions before jumping into it. The graphics and sound effects make it seem extremely complex and sometime get overwhelming, in a good way. The experience get more and more chaotic depending on what you happen to be doing at the time.

Overall, cs.one is a great example of how a classic arcade model can be taken and remade for a modern device. It has some wonderful gameplay and is ultimately a steal for the price it was offered for at the time of this review. Check it out.
