Civilization Revolution is a part of a series of games that have appeared on consoles, computers, and now handheld devices. The game is basically a port of the console games with some of the more tedious micro-management taken out of the equation so players can focus on other things. The game is a turn-based world domination game with a ton of strategy thrown in. It has players pick a civilization to control, each with their own bonuses, and will have them progress that civilization through different eras with growth in technology and knowledge.
Someone starting out in the game without any prior knowledge to how it works may be a little overwhelmed with the sheer amount of gameplay offered. There is a tutorial in the game but this sometimes is not enough. The controls in the game are top notch for a touch device and work very well. Once the buttons are learned and strategies are formed, players are able to do a ton with the interface and it almost never got in the way.
The art and sound of this game have mostly been preserved from previous versions of the game and make for a great feel as you are playing.
With so much content offered in this game, it really was a joy to play. The different AI levels make for some challenging gameplay but the more disappointing aspect is the lack of any multiplayer. Another somewhat odd feature, or lack thereof, is the missing autosave feature. If you receive a call while playing, the game will not return you back to where you were. Instead it loads up the last save point which can get annoying.
But overall, Civilization has a reputation as a good series and this game doesn't break that. Even though it has a steeper price (on iPhone terms), it is worth it. Check it out.
