SUMMARY: Easily find a nearby coffee shop

CoffeeSeeker is an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows you to locate nearby coffee shops so you can have your pick of where you want your cup of joe. The app is more novelty then useful, unfortunately, as it simply replicates a feature that already exists in the Google Maps app.

When you load up the app, you'll see a list of all the coffee shops in your area listed from closest to furthest away. You can enter the filter mode to change what you see on the main screen. There are options for distance (including what format you want distance presented in) and the ability to select/deselect the three coffee shops this app locates: Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, and Peet's Coffee and Tea.

When you find a coffee shop you like, you can favorite that location so it's easier to find next time. Inside the shops profile you'll be able to open the location up in Google Maps or edit the profile. The fact that you can actually edit the address and other information for each location and save it means that people could maliciously change the shop information. You could wind up at the wrong location.

This app is an interesting idea and would be very handy if it included local coffee shops as well. Unfortunately it doesn't and it costs $1.99. Instead of using this app, just load up the Google Maps app and type in the location you're looking for in search. From there you'll find exactly what you're looking for and save yourself some money.
