Cooliris is a media viewing app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that makes viewing images online a lot more interesting then using Safari to do so. This app runs best over WiFi considering it's based around loading tons of images up at once, but you can get away with using it over 3G without too much of an issue.
Depending on your preference, you can view Cooliris in either landscape or portrait view. Once the app has loaded up the default pictures, you can use your finger or tilt the device to scroll through the giant picture wall. If you see a picture you like, tap on it to bring it up to half screen with the meta-data revealed. From here you can tap the image again to make it larger, tap the meta-data to launch the website it's from, or email it to yourself or someone else.
Cooliris offers two different ways to enjoy this image viewer: Discover and Search.
Discover will pull up all of the most popular search terms for images. The other option is Search, which allows you to select from Google, Flickr, Yahoo, Smug, and DeviantArt to search for images by keywords. Once you select which one you want, you'll have the chance to enter in your keyword and watch Cooliris populate with related images.
Considering you can easily email yourself the picture, this app can be used for a number of different things. You can even save the images you find in a roundabout way. Cooliris is a really sharp and well designed app that does offer a different spin on image viewing. If you do a good deal of image viewing on your iPhone, definitely download this app.
