Penguin Catapult is an interesting game for the iPhone and iPod Touch where you launch penguins in an attempt to knock out the Polar Bears roaming around each level.
The concept is confusing but the goofy storyline will explain to you what?s going on exactly. The storyline strings together the 200 level campaign mode that comes equipped with a map and the ability to power up your penguins for added fun. In this mode, you?ll spend the first part of each level trying to launch the penguins while the second part will be spent divebombing them into Polar Bears. You get between one to three stars depending on how well you clear out the level.
If the campaign mode isn?t really your thing, you could always play the strategy mode. This mode feels a lot like RISK. Basically, you?ve got armies of penguins and polar bears on a board. Each round allows you to attack adjacent squares with enemy animals on them. At the end of each turn you automatically gain more troops in each square. This is honestly boring as all you?re doing is moving troops from square to square and skipping over the fight animation.
This game isn?t that great overall. The novelty of launching penguins in campaign mode will get boring fast. The strategy mode just isn?t fun. Also the controls require you to swipe for any sort of movement without allowing drag. And add in the fact that the graphics aren?t anything special and the price is just a little bit high for what this game offers and you?ve got a title that you can probably pass on. Try the lite version, but chances are you won?t make the jump to paid.
