Crystal Defenders is a Final Fantasy Tower Defense game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This game takes quite a bit from the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 game for the Nintendo DS including the job classes and what seems like the entire soundtrack.
Crystal Defenders is no different from any other Tower Defense game we?ve had a chance to play except for the superficial differences. Instead of towers or other stationary objects, you?ll be placing characters from the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 game. These character each have a specific job and purpose. Depending on the type of money you have and which level of difficulty you?re playing, you can place nearly every job class from the original game into battle to help you defend those crystals. There are even power
The presentation of this game is fairly disappointing. The play area is less than half the total size of the screen.
On the left of the play area you have all the monsters that will be attacking you. On the right you have all the available job classes you can pick from. While having that as a border is nice, it really is there just to keep the size of the play area from being distorted. The bottom half of the screen is a giant control pad. This is the most confusing part of the app considering that you can actually touch the screen to move your cursor around. The control pad makes this game look unpolished and unprofessional.
As a tower defense game, Crystal Defenders is not too shabby thanks to the six different maps each with two difficulty levels. As a Final Fantasy game and a game made by a major player in the video game market, it?s a pretty weak presentation. If you?re a fan of Final Fantasy and enjoy the Tower Defense games, definitely check out Crystal Defenders.
