Distant Suns is an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows you to put the universe in your pocket. This app was originally created for the Commodore Amiga in 1987 and has come quite a long way.
This app offers a lot of information and is truly all you need to navigate the stars. There are multiple pages for filtering through all of the information that you can see with this app. The first row you?re presented with offers tabs for the Moon, Sun, Planets, Constellations, and an Other tab.
Pressing the arrow next to it will load up all field of view options, including changing the angle you?re viewing the sky from 60 degrees to 30 degrees and changing the direction you?re looking as well. The final filtering options offer a What?s Up interface that shows you broad overview of where everything is, the ability to clear the field of view, more info about the app, preferences, and of course the help area.
There?s a lot to see and do in this app and plenty more to customize. You can really explore the entire universe with this little app and see everything as you would from where you?re located. The app offers a built in GPS locator so that when you select North to view the sky, you?re actually seeing the same North you would be seeing. If you?re a fan of watching the night sky and want more information than you could ever imagine while you?re doing it, definitely check out Distant Suns.
