Dropship is an innovative arcade shooter for the iPhone and iPod Touch that offers a unique gaming experience. Your objective is to fly your dropship through enemy terrain in an attempt to evacuate your allies and rescue the cargo.
In Dropship, you control the your ship by using your thumbs on the screen. Anywhere you place your thumb on the left hand side of the screen will display the movement analog stick and on the right hand side of the screen the weapon analog stick. This is really great as it doesn?t limit the controls to just one specific spot, you actually get to customize it to your liking. Each level is going to offer up a new course for you to navigate through in an attempt to save all the crew stranded on this terrain along with the cargo you?ll find there. The crew all have names taken from your Contacts app to make things a little bit more interesting as well. You?ll want to rescue the crew first before you grab the cargo and leave the level to complete it.
The game design is really simple but interesting all at the same time. Everything is wire drawn and 3D with sharp neon colors giving it a very similar feel to Geometry Wars. While the environment is 3D, you?re more navigating through the game as if it was flat until you exit the level. This can be confusing at first but you?ll get the hang of it pretty quickly. When navigating through the level you?ll want to avoid hitting the terrain and the enemy units that will attack you in one way or another.
There are two different play modes for you to dig into. The campaign mode offers up 18 missions that end when you?ve secured the cargo. The free play mode offers progressively harder levels where you have to save all your crew members before time runs out. The levels in this game may seem short, but considering that each level seems to have a more difficult terrain and more crew members to rescue, you?ll definitely have your work cut out for you. What?s really great about Dropship is that you can download additional levels. At launch, the game already offers three levels for you to play with more to come. Considering the basic game will keep you entertained for quite some time, these additional levels will just be one more reason to keep this game on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
