Dungeon Scroll is a unique blend of two different gametypes that I never expected to merge. It takes the powerups and hitpoints of a dungeon crawler and blends them with the gameplay of a word game. This crazy mashup of styles has now been packaged and named Dungeon Scroll. The game plays almost exactly how you would expect it to be. It is mainly a word game, having users put together words from letters found at the bottom of the screen.
The main catch is, while you are making words, you are being attacked by different creatures.
Each creature has hitpoints that can only be taken away by casting spells, also known as creating words. When a word is created, how ever many letters it is comprised of is how many hitpoints that will be taken away from the enemy. Different letters can be earned that act as different multipliers or health boosts as you defeat your enemies. This game then becomes a race to find words as fast as possible and also requires the player to strategize on when they will use their power letters.
The game was fun, but ultimately reminded me of my days sitting on a computer playing Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, where they try to disguise my learning by adding a game mechanic. It is a fun game that deserves to be checked out and at a very cheap price, it is well worth the purchase. Check it out.
