SUMMARY: Quickly and easily keep track of exactly how much you're spending

Easy Cash is a simple, yet powerful application that helps you keep track of exactly how much you are spending on a day-to-day basis. The basic idea is to open the app up every time you make a purchase and enter the amount you’ve spent. The app makes this easy by setting up a one-touch system with predefined items and, in some cases, predefined amounts.

To really make this app work for you, you’ll need to spend a little time setting it up properly. The main screen is a set of blocks of varying colors with category and item labels. There are several blocks already created by default. Some of these will be useful to you, such as “fuel”, and others may be useless, such as “bus ticket”. You have the freedom to add or delete certain blocks so you can customize your main page to fit your daily life.

Tapping and holding down a block will bring up the edit menu to change the category, name and default price. Doing this on an empty block will simply create a new item. You can also color code these items to your liking. For example, all of your expenses related to your vehicle can be one color and all of your tech purchases can be another color. The app is highly customizable. You can even change how many rows and columns to have on your main page.

Once you’ve set up all your main purchases, you can go ahead and start entering data. Now, everyone has busy lives and every second counts. So, entering this data had better be quick and easy, right? Let’s say you just stopped to fill up at the gas pump. First, you’ll need to open the application. Then, you’ll tap on “Fuel”, enter the gas price, tap “done” and exit the app. It really doesn’t take that much time at all. It’s even faster when you enter prices that are constant. For example, you can set up a button to track your coffee purchases and if you always get the same size coffee from the same place, you can enter in a constant default price. Now all you have to do is open the app, tap “coffee”, tap “done” and exit the app. The price will automatically be entered in. You can also view all of your items in list view, just in case you have more items than are able to fit on the main page.

At the end of the week, you’ll probably want to check out how much money you’ve spent and on what items. You can view your spending history in list or chart view. In list view, you can sort your data by date, name, or value. You can also set the start and end date for your data so you can view your total spending in a day, week, month or year. In chart view, you are presented with all your spending within your selected time frame shown in color-coded bars. The items you spent the most on will have the longest bar, whereas the items you spent the least on will have the shortest bar. This view really gives you a sense of what you’re spending the most money on.

Easy Cash definitely provides you with a good visual representation of how you’re spending your money on a day-to-day basis. However, that’s all it really does. The developer makes it clear that, “Easy Cash is not designed to control your income or the amount of money that you currently have in your pocket…”. So, don’t expect this app to keep track of a household budget. Don’t expect to be able to export your data to excel or other finance software either. All it does is keep track of your spending, and it does it very well. The interface may not be beautiful, but it’s highly intuitive, allowing for easy navigation and entering in of prices. If you’re like me and have trouble remembering how much money you’ve spent on iPhone apps this week, then I strongly recommend getting this application.
