EasyMix provides a simple way to mix together your favorite audio samples for live performances or recordings. There are five tracks available with four different samples on each track. Even though it’s fun and easy to make your own original beats, the app really doesn’t offer much in terms of customization. This one is definitely for the casual user.
There are five different styles of music to choose from: Techno, Trance, Progressive House, Breaks and Disco. Each one has its own unique set of high quality audio loops to play around with. Once you’ve selected your style you can go ahead and start mixing. There are five tracks with four different loops on each one: beat, drum, bass, lead and synth. Pressing the play button will start the measure and beat counts. You can tap on any one of the four loops to hear them play and you can only choose one loop at a time for each track. An orange light indicates the loop will start to play at the beginning of the next measure while a green light indicates the current playing loop.
You can also change the volume for each track that’s playing. So, you can make the bass the prominent voice for a few measures, then lower it and make the lead the prominent voice in the next part. Or, you can just mix the volume levels to where you think it sounds best and keep them there for the entire mix. There are also three sliders at the bottom of the screen that allow you to increase or decrease the lows, mids and highs. This gives you some extra control over the bass and treble.
There are some additional controls at the top of the screen that allow you to randomize a mix or record your current performance. If so desired, you can let the app randomly create a mix for you. You’ll be able to see what loops have been selected, as it happens. The only controls you will have while the random feature is on are the volume and equalizer sliders. As soon as you tap the record button, the app will record your entire mix. When you hit stop, you can give your mix a title and it will be saved in your track list for later use.
This application definitely lacks a ton of features that are standard in any app of this type. However, the title of the app is EasyMix. It advertises itself as an easy mixing application that anyone can use, and the description is very accurate. This is in no way for the hardcore DJ that needs a full-featured app to use at his gigs. This is for the casual user to simply have fun with. The only thing that really bugged me about the app is the beat counter. It starts at zero instead of one. The first beat of any measure should always be one, not zero. The developer should absolutely fix that in the next update. Other than that, the sounds are high quality loops, and there are still some customizable features in the volume controls and equalizer sliders. Your mixes will sound great, and you’ll have fun creating them too. If you’re looking for a very basic mixing app, then this one is definitely for you.
