eMees is an avatar creation app for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
When you first start the app you will be asked if you want to create a male or female avatar, which is referred to as an "eMee". After choosing the gender of your eMee, the app randomly creates one for you as a base model. You can select different facial features to edit using the topmost menu. Under each category of the available features, you are given a small subset of different types of those features from which you can choose from. Whether you want a huge crooked nose or small reading glasses, this app has plenty of different options which should satisfy most of your needs. Changing the types is as simple as swiping to the left or to the right. The five icons above the toolbar on the bottom is where you can change the color, rotation, size, and how close or far apart things such as the eyes or eyebrows are. Not every facial feature has the same edit options, but you can tell which ones are available as some of the editing icons will be grayed out and unable to be tapped.
After creating an eMee, you can save it inside the app by tapping the "Save eMee" icon on the toolbar, which will prompt you for a name. Accessing your previously saved eMees is achieved by tapping the Gallery icon on the toolbar. While in the Gallery view, tapping on an eMee will start a slideshow of your eMees. From within the slideshow you can tap the export icon, tap the arrows, or trash the current eMee. The export icon gives you the option of editing your eMee, using your eMee in a pose, setting the eMee as a contact for your caller ID, or saving the eMee to your device. Tapping on the arrows in slideshow mode will change to the next or previous eMee. If you no longer want an eMee, tapping the trashcan will delete it.
Tapping the "Pose" icon on the toolbar will bring up your eMees to select and place in one of three different poses.
To see the different poses, tap the left or right arrows. If you like a pose, tap on the "Save Pose" icon on the toolbar. Starting over is as simple as tapping the "Create" icon while in another menu.
There are many problems with this app. To begin with, the interface is excruciatingly slow, particularly when cycling through the head types. Tapping on different facial features that you want to edit take a good second or two before actually selecting them. The selection of head types leave you longing for more while trying to create a female eMee, as most of the jaw types are limited to male eMee's; this is the same for the nose, mouth, and eyes options as well. The artwork is okay, but not excellent. Another problem you will encounter while creating a female eMee is that all of the facial types have a slight shadow where the chin is, which looks bad on female avatars because it looks like five o' clock shadow. Creating a presentable eMee takes the better part of twenty minutes, due to the slow interface and the amount of options given to you. Often times I found myself giving up on an eMee simply because of the time it took to create one. The poses are simply outlines, which would be great if you have a young child to print one out to so that they may color it in, but looks bad when assigning to a contact or using for your Twitter avatar. The most fun I had using this app was creating abominations that looked so ridiculous that it was impossible for anyone not to laugh. If this app was free, I would recommend to at least try this app to see if you liked it your self, but seeing as you have to pay for it, I recommend that you don't bother with this app. There are plenty of avatar creation websites online that offer many more options and better artwork for free.
