Utilities » Fast Web Review

Fast Web is an internet browsing app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Using the Google Mobile filter and image compression, this app offers the best browsing experience for slow networks such as EDGE.

When you start the app, you will be taken to an introduction screen. Here you will learn how the app works and the functions of the toolbar on the bottom. Tapping the magnifying glass will bring two text bars; One a search bar, and the other being the address bar. Tapping the double arrows will begin the optimized browsing mode. In this mode, every page is rendered by the Google Mobile service and is compressed to allow fast browsing at the cost of webpage layout.

Although the concept and the innerworkings of this app are excellent, the app interface could use a bit of polish.

This app is great, however, and really does speed things along when you are on EDGE and want to quickly read something. Another feature that this app includes is the ability to browse in "private" mode. One concern that I have with this mode is that when using the optimized mode in conjunction with the 'private' mode, everything that you browse is automatically pushed through Google's servers. This may or may not present a security concern for those individuals who use these modes together. This app truly lives up to its word though, I found websites that normally took 45 seconds to load, finished in under 10 seconds. I recommend this app to anyone who needs a quick look at websites while on the go, and if you are the fiscal type, there is a free version in the AppStore. Try it out!
