Utilities » Freebird Review

Out of the three available lighter apps for the iPhone, only these two are available for free. Each one has something unique about them but overall they fall short of being anything more than a short and not very enjoyable gag.
myLighter gives you the least options out of all the lighter apps. This app just uses what looks like a BIC to show a flame over and over again. The animation is looped, but you can't do anything to the lighter, such as turning it on/off or changing type of lighter. The flame flickers in a background that is a bit illuminated, making it stand out as a fake lighter.
Freebird offers a little bit more options wise, but still doesn't provide anything to brag about. You have three options in Freebird: lighter, candle, and glowstick.

The issue is, the last two options are just pictures. They don't even move at all. Now granted, the animation for a glowstick wouldn't really be existant unless it was shaking, but a candle isn't that far off from a lighter, so what gives?
The lighter app idea has been overdone. If you've got an iPhone, chances are you're old enough to have a lighter and use it responsibly. While we'll have to see how these apps stand up to the Crazy Lighter paid app, Freebird is the current winner of this competition. But don't take that as an endorsement to go download Freebird.
