Gamespot is a leading competitor in game news online. Their recently released app aims to bring that experience to the mobile platform, more specifically, the iPhone. The app is essentially a compilation of the content available on the company's website. It offers video news and reviews, photos, and previews of recently released games on a variety of platforms.

Right off the bat the app comes across as slightly too busy. The only reason I could find for this is the absolutely obnoxious ads that plague every single section of the app.

They are always present and they even frequently interrupt the user when viewing photos. This was extremely annoying. Other problems with the app came in the way of speed. The app tends to lag when loading any type of content and when the content does eventually load, it take a little bit more time to continue on.

Overall, my impression of the app is that there just wasn't enough thought put into it. It may access the content available online, but the interface makes it extremely painful to access and doesn't seem to fit with the fluidity of the iPhone. The app is available for free in the app store so check it out and see for yourself if it is something worth grabbing.
