With the beautiful 9.7 inch screen on the iPad, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to turn it into a game board... well, multiple game boards as a matter of fact. Gametable is an app taking a hands-off approach to how their app works on the iPad. The app provides three different board games (at least at the time of this review) that can be chosen and played on.
But instead of a structured game with set rules and regulations, the app only provides the pieces to play the game. This actually changes the experience up quite a bit as it really does make it feel like you are playing with actual pieces since you have to move them yourself. The app only comes with three different game boards: Chess, Checkers, and a Poker setup which can also be used for card games. This is kind of unfortunate because it would be awesome to have setups for games like Pente and other stone games.
The app worked really nice and has already seen an update taking care of an issue with shuffling cards. The checkers and chess are really nice to play with but the cards tend to make the process a little too long. Overall though, this app is an awesome way to play a board game when there isn't any around. If the developers continue to update with new board types and pieces, this app might be a necessary buy. Check it out.
