Garters & Ghouls is a stick shooter survival game that has come out just in time for the Halloween season. The game is created by NAMCO and brings an interesting new look into the genre. The large new thing to note is the fact that this game actually has a story. Unlike most stick shooters that can be found in the appstore such as iDracula and Minigore, Garters & Ghouls actually progresses through a story that moves you through different areas as you try to figure what in the world is going on.

You play as a girl who has risen from the dead thanks to a potion. She is trying to figure what has happened to her as a mysterious man has her eliminate zombies and other creatures that are trying to take over the world.

To do this, the player has to eliminate all the spawn points on a level before being able to move on into the next part of the story.

This game has been getting great reviews for its story-based gameplay but the actual gameplay is what holds me back. It is a little choppy and the animations are extremely subpar. Sure you can upgrade your weapons and get different powerups, but the experience itself is ruined by cheap animation. If you like stick shooters, this one has a great plot to work through, but for fluid controls, try looking somewhere else.

Yes, Namco may have done well by having a decent story attached to their game. Unfortunately it falls flat in every other regard. The controls are stiff and unresponsive. The graphics seem as though they were off to a great start and then gave up even trying halfway through. This game, like everything else offered by Namco for the iPhone seems rushed, poorly executed and lacking any real value. It would seem to me, as a player, that getting the game to fun and playable, sound great and have great graphics would be more important than an in depth storyline. Other than a kickin soundtrack and effects this game is a \\PASS\\ unless they make it free.
