SUMMARY: An easy guide and grocery list app for shopping green

GoodGuide is an app for the iPhone and iPod touch that allows you to find safe, healthy, and green products for you to use. The app is meant as a shopping companion, so it?s pretty easy to use it when you?re in the store getting ready to purchase items.

There are four areas to the app: Featured, Find, Lists, and Profile. Featured is kind of awkward and offers two random items that it claims are top rated. The assumption is they are the top rated items from their respective categories. Find will let you either browse through our search for a specific item. The search area can be kind of flakey as you can?t always search for a category and find the best item, you have to search for a specific product or a very broad category.

If you create a profile with GoodGuide you can actually create lists and store your preferences. Unfortunately, this app forces you to register through Safari if you want to make a profile. Once you?ve made a profile, List becomes a lot more useful considering it will save what you mark down. When you open a specific items profile you?ll be able to add it to your list or block it. This is a handy feature that turns the app into a green grocery list.

Each profile will provide you with information on what makes it green and healthy. If this is your sort of thing, this app will definitely be a perfect shopping companion for you. Unfortuantely, it doesn?t really seem like the type of app that will convince you to start going green if you?re not on that path already.
