Recommendation apps are a dime a dozen and it's very hard to figure out which one you should use. The goal is to find a place to eat or drink, maybe what movie to see, but you want an honest opinion from a user that's been to that location or seen that movie. GoodRec is a well rounded app to help you out with making your decision.
The interface for GoodRec is a lot sharper then some of the other apps of its type. The app will let you filter out your options for what you're looking for and how far away you want to look through their map or list function. The map works very well in this app and is one of the few apps that offers the same feel the Maps app does.
When looking for a place to eat, you can also search by the type of food you'd want to eat as well.
Unlike the apps that pull their opinions from a website counterpart to compliment the information listed by app users, GoodRec seems to just use what their users fill in. If you're in a major city there will be plenty of pictures and opinions on a lot of the locations you'll see on your map, but where this app was reviewed there wasn't anything listed. That doesn't mean it is any less useful, as it shows you everything in the area that you could be interested in.
GoodRec looks really sharp and works really well. For it to be the leading app of its type, they would need to have more reviews listed. For them to have more reviews listed, they would need more users. This is one of the few user updated apps that actually feels worth it considering how easy it is to use.
