One of the largest complaints that can be found across the internet having to do with the iPhone is the lack of push gmail. For some reason, Apple and Google have not provided a way for gmail to receive push and instead have limited it to IMAP forcing the iPhone to check email periodically therefore draining valuable battery. We've seen many workarounds offered from going through Yahoo mail to setting up a MobileMe account. Many workarounds involve complicated setup with not-so-nice results and some even cost money.
GPush has been released and makes it very easy to be notified when you have new mail almost instantly, without changing your mail setup. Once the app is downloaded, users simply put in their Google username and password and the app will do the rest.
When a new email is received, the app will send a push notification to your phone and you can then open the mail app and view it. Users should turn off the mail fetch in the general settings so mail isn't wasting battery life.
Overall, it was a pretty good experience with this app. I did have the occasional hiccup when I would not receive a notification, but for the most part, it let me know as soon as I received the email. The app does cost a small price, but for a good notification, it might be worth it. Many users have had mixed feelings about the app, but I'm sure with time and a couple updates, this app will be as good as it gets until Google finally gives us the real push Gmail. Check this app out if you need to get those emails ASAP.
