It is no secret that the iPhone can do some pretty amazing things and this is due to it’s collection of awesome technologies. The latest to catch my attention is the awesome app GyroSynth. The app finally accomplishes what I have wanted on my phone for a long time: A virtual theremin.
The app makes music using the motion of your hand. It takes advantage of the iPhone’s gyroscope, accelorometer, and compass to provide a completely smooth and accurate experience. Tilt the phone sideways to turn up the volume, turn it to change notes, and tilt it up to affect modulation. The app comes with a ton of options from different control schemes to 4 different oscillator sounds. Since it can be difficult to hit every not perfectly, you can also choose a scale so you can jam out to almost whatever style music is appropriate.
It’s actually quite an amazing app for the price you will pay. If you’re into making different styles of music or just playing around, check this app out. It’s well made and definitely worth the price.
