Happening is an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that taps into the Yahoo Upcoming service to bring local events straight to your mobile device. Users can browse nearby events easily or decide to search for a specific event by keyword. The app makes it ridiculously easy to find public events being offered in the future.

The app also syncs with the user's Upcoming account to bring their friend list and saved events right into the app. This was a nice feature but it also happens to be where my first complaint comes in. The app requires the user to drop out and open safari in order to link their account. It opens a webpage that is not optimized for the iPhone and took me over 7 tries to link my Upcoming account. The app also will plot the events onto an embedded Google Maps inside the app itself. This was a nice feature to see where events will be located.

Overall, the app offered an extremely quick way of seeing all the events that have been reported in my area. It really was missing some key features such as the ability to mark events and add them to your calendar but these features are rumored to be added in the next release. The sign in process is annoying, but once it's taken care of this app is pretty handy to have.
