SUMMARY: Get high quality business management tips from the Harvard Business Review

HBR Tips is one of those applications that support the old saying that quality is more important than quantity. There really isn’t much to do here, but that’s not what the app is about. The main purpose is to provide the user with daily tips on business management. That’s it? Well, these tips come from the Harvard Business Review, so you know they are of the highest caliber.

The first page displays a list of the last five days that tips were given on. You can tap on any day to bring up the actual tip. You can also tap on the random button and get a tip from a random day that is not listed on the front page. The tips offered are actually very interesting to read. They are well written and provide angles on business topics you may never have thought of before. Some tips I read, such as “How to Battle Job Boredom,” really made me think about my own job and how I can make my daily routine more interesting. Being a teacher, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to relate to any of these tips, but I found the opposite to be true. Many of the tips I came across could be applied to many occupations. The screenshots I’ve provided highlight a tip about how to clean up your email inbox. Everyone could use a tip like that, no matter what job you have.

When you’ve come across a tip that you’d like to share, you have four options to choose from. You can use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or email to send your favorite tips to family, friends or coworkers. The email link is the most user-friendly way to share. The others only provide a web-based version that you’ll need to zoom into in order to enter your login information. So, sharing with Twtiter, Facebook and LinkedIn actually becomes a bit tedious. Also, when using email, you need to manually type in the recipient’s address, as there is no address book integration. The app is free, so you can’t complain too much, but it would still be nice if the developer could make sharing a bit easier.

For a simple and free application, there’s really only one other feature that would be nice to see. It would be great to have a favorites feature so you can mark the best tips for later viewing. I would love to have a little collection of my favorite tips to refer to when I needed some extra help or encouragement with my job. Besides that, HBR Tips is a great free app that every professional should own. You’ll be surprised at how many tips actually apply to you and make you think. Try it out.
