Hip Hop All Star is a game that is trying to bring the fun of tapping to a beat to the iPhone in a new way. While we have tapping games like Tap Tap that are leading the way when it comes to sales, there is still plenty of room for innovation in the genre. Hip Hop All Star's goal is to bring the fun of running a DJ set in an easy-to-understand way with some new features. Although it does bring some new ideas to the table, it was just a bit too simple and basic to be an excellent stand alone app.

The concept is that instead of jamming along a guitar track or tapping along an arbitrary line of dots, you will be tapping on a revolving record. By doing well, players can enable the scratching mode which will let players scratch the record. This feature could have been cool but ended up being a big flop for me. The record ended up feeling more clunky than anything and the overall transition from tapping to scratching really detracted from the flow of the game.

The game lets player choose their DJ and then follow them through a DJ career but the whole game felt a little too underdone in my opinion. Compared to some other games that involve tapping to music, this one just didn't stand up. The idea was to bring a hip hip flavor to the genre which it did, but there just wasn't that great of a playlist and the gameplay was a little too boring.
