Hippo High Dive is a simple, yet fun and addicting game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The goal is to guide the hippo from the diving board all the way into the tiny pool at the bottom. Who knew that such a silly game could be so addictive!
You start the game off with a fifty-foot dive off the diving board. Tapping on the screen will start the jump, and then it’s up to you to get the hippo through the flaming hoops and into the pool. The challenging part is that the flaming hoops are always in different, random positions throughout the dive. So, you’ll need to tilt your device left or right in order to guide the hippo through the center of each hoop. If you touch the flames of the hoop you’ll be burned and lose half a life. If you miss a hoop completely you’ll lose a full life, and there’s only three lives available. If you still have lives left when you get into the pool at the bottom then you’ve passed that level and can move on to a higher diving height.
The higher you go, the more hoops you have to travel through and the more difficult the game becomes. The random placement of the hoops adds an additional challenge, forcing you to tilt your device quickly from one side to the other so you can aim for the center of the hoop.
The game is basically infinitely long, allowing you to continuously achieve higher heights. Your stats are recorded and compared to the global leader board so you can see how you compare to others playing this game. A nice feature is that you can tweet out your current achievement to Twitter so everyone can see how high you’ve got your hippo diving.
The graphics and sound are simple, yet perfect for this type of silly game. The tilt controls are responsive and smooth. Everything about Hippo High Dive is just fun. You can spend hours playing this game, continuously trying to beat your previous score. If I had one complaint, it would probably be the lack of environments to dive in. The scenery is always the same and it would be nice to dive in different places. Regardless, I highly recommend checking this game out. You won’t believe how addicting and fun a diving hippo can be!
