I Love Katamari! Is the iPhone and iPod Touch version of the popular Katamari Damacy series of games. All of the games in the series have you running around a level pushing your katamari ball over objects to complete a certain objective. While it sounds simple and there have been numerous versions of Katamari Damacy, this version has some pretty noticeable issues.
In I Love Katamari! you?ll be able to play through five different levels, each offering up four different play modes. The different worlds introduce new objects for your katamari ball to grab and a different environment completely for you to traverse through. The game modes keep you in the same level but have different objectives for you to complete. Story Mode has you picking up specific objects that the King of All Cosmos has requested. Time Attack Mode is a race against the clock to build the largest katamari possible. Exact Size Challenge Mode has you guessing where to stop to get your katamari to just the right size. And Eternal Mode is a free play mode with no time limit or objectives to deal with.
The controls in I Love Katamari! take advantage of both the accelerometer and the touch interface.

You?ll be rotating the ball around with the accelerometer, so most of the control will come from there, but if you want to spin around, run, or side step, you?ll have to touch the screen. You can?t change the sensitivity on the accelerometer to fit your liking unfortunately, but that doesn?t really cause much of an issue. Where this game does have an issue, however, is with its framerate. You won?t notice the issue when you first start playing the game, but as you build a larger katamari and go through that transition animation, you?ll notice the entire game start to slow down. At first, it?s only during those animations, then after awhile it doesn?t go away. This honestly gets to a point where the game isn?t playable anymore.
If the issues with the frame rate were fixed, this game would be just as much, if not more fun then some of the other versions of this game. The controls fit very well and the concept in general is something easy enough for anyone to grasp very quickly. Once they fix the frame rate issue, definitely check this game out. Until then, don?t even bother.
